R INDUSTRIAL VIDEO ENDOSCOPE

Precise measurements using a rotatable 3D point cloud

When measuring with a 3D point cloud, individual 3D points are captured that precisely describe their spatial position, enabling the calculation of distances, areas, volumes and geometries.

This allows for even more efficient and safer inspections, simplifies documentation, improves the comparability of results, and reduces subjective misjudgements and the need for re-measurement.

For 3D stereo measurement, two wide-angle cameras are integrated at the distal end of the probe. It operates on the principle of stereoscopy – similar to human vision. Both cameras simultaneously capture the same object from slightly different angles.

Based on these images, the position of the camera base and the disparity between the values, the 3D position of each point is calculated. From this, distances, areas, volumes and geometries can be derived. With the Videoendoscope R, precise measurements can be carried out quickly and easily even in tight, low-light inspection environments.

Various Measurement Methods

The 3D stereo measurement offers several measurement procedures with highly precise and user-friendly functions to meet all quality assurance requirements. The following five measurement functions are available:

Point-to-Point

First, a starting point is selected. The position can be adjusted using the arrow keys. For precise positioning, the mini joystick assists. Next, a second point is added. The distance between the two points is automatically calculated and displayed. Measurements can also be edited or deleted.

Point-to-Plane

The probes can be exchanged quickly and easily, making complex inspections faster and more efficient. Depending on the application, a wide range of probe diameters (from 0.85 mm to 8.4 mm), lengths (from 1 to 15 meters), and optical characteristics are available. The probes are highly durable, consisting of multiple layers: stainless steel, a sealing layer, and an outer tungsten braid ensure a long service life. Depending on the application, you can choose between many different diameters, working lengths and optical viewing options. Probe replacement is quick and easy. The probes are very robust and consist of several layers: Stainless steel, a sealing layer and an outer layer of tungsten ensure a long service life.

Point-to-Line

First, add two points to define a line. Then place a third point to measure the perpendicular distance between this point and the line.

Point-to-Plane

For depth measurement, three points are placed to define a reference plane. A fourth point is then selected. The distance between this point and the plane is calculated.

Line-Segment

Ideal for quick measurements, such as crack defects within components, is the multiple-length measurement. For this, a series of points is selected consecutively to determine the total length of the line segment.

Surface-Area

Suface-Area Measurement is ideal for verifying the size of known features, findings or defects. At least three points are placed. From these, the area of the triangle is calculated. With each additional point, the measured area of the polygon is adjusted accordingly.

VERIFICATION

Verify reliability

At the beginning and at the end of a stereo measurement, the system’s functionality must to be checked. For this purpose, a test measurement is carried out in the calibrated verification block.
